Labour Council Demands Action on Hazard Allowance Delay

The Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) has issued a warning to the Federal Government regarding the failure to implement an approved occupational hazard allowance for agricultural professionals in the public service, which was granted nearly two years ago. In a letter to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the JNPSNC expressed dissatisfaction with the “unnecessary delay” in issuing the necessary circular for the payment.

The approval for the allowance was made during the 46th meeting of the National Council on Establishment held in Ede, Osun State, from November 4 to 8, 2024. The JNPSNC, represented by National Secretary Olowoyo Gbenga, noted that letters demanding implementation were sent on June 4, 2026, and July 21, 2026, but received no response.

The council emphasized that the delay could lead to an industrial dispute and urged immediate action to facilitate the issuance of the circular to motivate affected workers and enhance productivity in the public service.
