Civil Servants Urge Minister Oyedele to Resolve Allowance Issues

Civil servants, represented by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), have issued a warning to Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, regarding the delayed implementation of a 40% peculiar allowance and outstanding promotion arrears. In a letter signed by National Secretary Olowoyo Gbenga, the council emphasized the urgency of these issues, stating that delays are contributing to unrest among public servants.

They acknowledged the Federal Government's recent payment of two months' outstanding wage award but noted that the 40% allowance remains unresolved. The council referred to a circular issued by the then Executive Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Eyo Nta, which mandated the allowance's implementation effective from May 1, 2026.

They urged Oyedele to act swiftly to avoid administrative delays and rejected claims of financial constraints, asserting that the government has sufficient resources to implement the circular.
