Lagos State Government Diverts Traffic for Bridge Repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion on Independence Bridge in Lagos Island as the Federal Ministry of Works begins urgent asphalt repairs. The repair works are set to commence on October 16, 2026, at night and will continue through October 18, 2026.
Mr Oluwaseun, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, stated that the repairs will impact both inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge. Traffic management measures will be implemented to minimize inconvenience, with partial closures of each section while maintaining one lane open for motorists.
The government advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative routes during the repair period. Officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage traffic and ease movement around the affected areas.
Motorists are encouraged to remain patient and comply with traffic laws throughout the repair duration.
