Lagos School Denies Teacher's Claims in Negligence Case

Great Kezino Nursery Primary School in Ikorodu, Lagos, publicly refuted claims made by former teacher Rukayat Tobiloba in a viral TikTok video. Tobiloba alleged that the school intended to jail her over a defilement case involving two nursery pupils.

On March 7, 2026, the school clarified that Tobiloba had not been charged with defilement and was instead arraigned alongside staff member Rukayat Lawal for negligence following a 2021 incident. The head teacher, Toyin Edaolaropin, explained that Tobiloba was employed as a class teacher on September 13, 2021, and the incident involved a pupil allegedly being harmed by a male classmate.

The school denied any wrongdoing and maintained that they supported Tobiloba throughout the legal process, even hiring a lawyer for her. The case is currently pending in court, with the next hearing scheduled for March 5, 2024.

Tobiloba's last court appearance was on November 10, 2023, after which the case was adjourned due to her pregnancy.
