Lekki Port Stakeholders Demand Action on Traffic Issues

Stakeholders along the Lekki Deep Seaport axis are raising alarms about worsening traffic congestion that is disrupting port operations. They attribute this issue to the Lagos State Government's failure to enforce traffic rules effectively, which impedes the movement of trucks and other vehicles bound for the port.

The stakeholders fear that prolonged traffic gridlock could further hinder cargo evacuation and negatively affect port operations. Although an electronic call-up system for truck movement is operational, the lack of enforcement regarding the use of designated truck parks remains a significant challenge.

Mr. Adeola Olusodo, Managing Director of Lekki World, acknowledged ongoing efforts to address the situation but emphasized that traffic regulation falls under the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. Trucker Cyril Jonah noted that many drivers secure call-up tickets before reaching the port, complicating the situation.

Mr. Emmanuel Anda, Port Manager at Nigerian Ports Authority, highlighted that poor enforcement has led to severe traffic blockages and accidents, warning of potential loss of life if the situation continues unchecked.
