Lagos Free Health Initiative Saves Lives of Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries of the Lagos State free health initiative, including 19-year-old Lydia Ogungbayi, 16-year-old Moshood Muritala, and three-year-old Ayoife George, recounted how the program saved their lives during a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Health. The visit included Prof. Akin Abayomi, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Kemi Ogunyemi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, and Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary.

Dr. Mazeedat Erinosho revealed that Lagos provided N5 million for Lydia's treatment, which involved a successful 10-hour surgery performed by the LASUTH cardiothoracic team. Lydia, who suffered from constrictive pericarditis for five years and nine months, expressed gratitude for the operation that transformed her life.

Other beneficiaries included Moshood, who had cardiac surgery in India, and Ayoife, who received surgery for congenital heart defects in Kerala, India. Prof. Akin Abayomi emphasized the government's commitment to healthcare delivery, combining funding, expertise, and modern equipment to alleviate the financial burden of medical bills.
