Suspected Cultist Arrested After Shooting at Police in Lagos

On June 15, 2026, in the Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos State, Tosin Agbeyangi, a suspected cultist, was arrested after engaging in a gunfight with police officers. The incident occurred on Mabolaji Street when Agbeyangi's group, believed to be affiliated with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader known as Koko Zaria, attempted to retaliate against a rival cult faction.

During a routine patrol, police noticed suspicious activity and were fired upon by the gang. In response, the police returned fire, leading to Agbeyangi sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg.

He was later found hiding near a canal and was in possession of a locally made pistol with live ammunition. During interrogation, Agbeyangi claimed he did not know the individuals he shot at were police officers, asserting that they were targeting a rival cult member.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the ongoing investigation and warned against violent activities by criminal gangs.
