Lalong Advocates Golf Investment to Enhance Tourism

Simon Lalong, the Vice Chairman of the Golfers Federation of Nigeria and former Governor of Plateau State, called for increased investment in golf to enhance Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sectors. He made this statement on Tuesday in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, during a golf event organized to celebrate the state's 30th anniversary.

Lalong emphasized the importance of golf in attracting tourists and supporting the hospitality industry, urging all levels of government to focus on developing golf facilities. He praised Nasarawa's progress since its creation from Plateau State on October 1, 1996, and advocated for stronger ties between the two states.

Lalong noted that the Lafia Golf Course has the potential to host a championship 18-hole course but requires better maintenance equipment. Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by Commissioner Jibrin Ibrahim, affirmed the state government's commitment to grassroots sports development, particularly in golf.

The Captain of the Lafia Golf Club, Tony Effa, and Thaddeus Yilmen from the Nigeria Golf Federation echoed the need for investment in the sport.
