Ogun Community Seeks Relief Over Farmland Destruction

Farmers and residents of Ajogbo Akia Community in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State have petitioned the state government for urgent relief following alleged destruction of their farmlands by landgrabbers. This appeal was made during a press conference on Tuesday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in Abeokuta.

The community, represented by Baale Dr Oluwasegun Adebiyi and community secretary Chief Timothy Olamide, reported that the destruction has severely impacted their livelihoods, with crops such as cassava, yam, maize, and okra, along with mature palm trees, being destroyed. Adebiyi emphasized the community's reliance on agriculture for survival and noted that many families have lost their primary source of income and food security.

The community has reported the incidents to the Ado-Odo Police Division and commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police for their response. They have also initiated legal proceedings regarding the land dispute while requesting humanitarian assistance from the government to help affected families.
