LASTMA Urges Media Collaboration, Warns Against Defamation

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), represented by Mr. Olalekan Bakar, has called for enhanced collaboration with the media while cautioning against the spread of unverified and defamatory reports.

This appeal was made during a recent statement where LASTMA reiterated its commitment to transparency and fostering a mutually beneficial relationship with the media. The authority urged media professionals to avoid publishing sensational stories that could damage institutional reputations and weaken public confidence.

This warning follows the conclusion of an internal investigative panel that reviewed claims published on online platforms alleging that LASTMA officials extorted N100,000 from commercial bus drivers along the coastal road corridor in Lagos. The panel's investigation confirmed that the vehicles involved were lawfully apprehended for obstructing traffic and that fines were duly paid into government accounts.

LASTMA emphasized the media's role in promoting public awareness and encouraging compliance with traffic laws.
