Lawyer Accuses Police of Bias in Osun Senator Case

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has accused the Osun State Police Command of bias regarding Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District. Fadahunsi made a controversial statement urging his supporters to “kill Accord” members ahead of the governorship election.

Effiong condemned the senator's remarks as “unfortunate, condemnable, reckless and irresponsible,” warning they could incite violence and disrupt the electoral process. Following backlash, Fadahunsi claimed he meant to defeat Accord Party members through votes, not violence, but Effiong dismissed this explanation as inadequate.

The senator was invited for questioning at the Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo and was released on bail. Effiong criticized the police's decision to release him, suggesting it indicated a lack of commitment to pursuing the case.

He called on Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to take over the investigation and ensure Fadahunsi is prosecuted, arguing that failure to do so would undermine public confidence in the police's neutrality.
