Senator Fadahunsi Summoned Over Violent Election Remarks

The Nigeria Police Force has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, for questioning regarding a controversial statement made during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Ilesa, Osun State. In a viral video, Fadahunsi urged APC supporters to lynch members of the Accord Party, stating, “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them.” He further declared that they should not be allowed to vote on election day.

After facing intense criticism, Fadahunsi retracted his statement, claiming it was metaphorical and intended to encourage his supporters to reject the Accord Party peacefully during the upcoming August 15 governorship election. Various groups, including the National Human Rights Commission, have called for his suspension, expressing concern over his incendiary remarks and the lack of immediate police action against him, which could set a dangerous precedent for future elections.
