OYSIEC Extends Party Primaries Deadline to August 5, 2026

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) has announced a new deadline of August 5, 2026, for political parties to conduct their primary elections ahead of the local government council elections. This nine-day extension was granted in response to a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which sought additional time for parties to finalize necessary administrative processes.

The initial deadline was set for July 27, 2026. Dr.

Afees Adeniyi, the OYSIEC Chairman, stated that the extension aims to ensure a credible and inclusive electoral process by allowing all interested political parties adequate time to organize their structures and documentation. The local government elections are scheduled for December 29, 2026.

Dr. Adeniyi urged political parties to adhere to the election guidelines and to submit the names of their successful candidates in a timely manner.
