Flying Eagles Coach Maikaba Eyes U-20 AFCON Qualification

Abdul Maikaba, the head coach of the Flying Eagles, is optimistic about his team's chances of qualifying for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations when they face hosts Ivory Coast in a crucial semi-final match. The Flying Eagles recently suffered a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their final group game, which prevented them from topping the group and resulted in a semi-final matchup against the hosts.

Despite this setback, Maikaba expressed confidence in his team's ability to learn from their mistakes and remain united. Nigeria had previously secured their place in the knockout stage by winning against Ghana and Togo in their initial matches.

The semi-final winners will qualify for the 2027 U-20 AFCON, set to take place in Ghana, and also serve as qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan. Nigeria is a seven-time champion of the U-20 AFCON, and Maikaba aims to lead the team to success.
