Ogundare and Obieze Win India Independence Cup Titles

The third edition of the India Independence Day Golf Tournament took place at the Ikeja Golf Club, featuring approximately 140 golfers. Jimoh Ogundare won the men’s category, with Wale Kalejaiye as the runner-up and Henry Gboneme in third place.

Linda Obieze claimed the women’s title, with Abiodun Hassan finishing as the runner-up. The tournament commemorated India’s 80th Independence Day anniversary and attracted participants from the Ikeja, Ikoyi, and Lakowe golf communities, with Ikeja members constituting the majority.

Vice-Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, Ejiro Ogomigo, described the event as a major success, noting improvements in competitiveness and entertainment compared to previous years. He highlighted the challenging nature of the course this year, where the highest score was 38 points, lower than the previous year’s 40 points.

Ogomigo also mentioned that the tournament was oversubscribed, indicating its growing popularity and the strong ties between the Indian community and the Nigerian golfing fraternity.
