Military Airstrikes Disrupt ISWAP Operations in Lake Chad

On April 21-22, 2026, the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai executed coordinated air and ground operations against the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) logistics network along the Lake Chad waterway. The operation, which took place around Kaniram Island in Northern Borno State, was based on credible intelligence and surveillance that identified a concentration of 30 terrorist boats involved in logistical support for ISWAP.

The air component of the operation successfully destroyed several boats, disrupting the terrorist logistics chain. Following the strikes, approximately 30 insurgents reportedly fled, indicating a breakdown in their command structure.

Additional strikes eliminated three terrorist gun trucks and resulted in significant enemy losses across multiple locations, including evidence of mass burial activities by ISWAP elements near Mallam Fatori. The military aims to maintain pressure on ISWAP to degrade their capabilities and restore stability in the northeast, with operations continuing until insurgent elements are decisively defeated.
