Minister Tegbe Enhances Power Supply with New Substations
On Thursday, Engr. Joseph Olasukanmi Tegbe, the Minister of Power, commissioned five transmission substation projects in Kano and Katsina states and inspected an ongoing GIS substation in Katsina. The projects added a total of 240MW at 330kV and 376MW at 132kV to Nigeria's transmission network, enhancing bulk power supply in the North Eastern region.
In Katsina, Tegbe commissioned two 60MVA power transformers at the Kankia Transmission Substation, increasing its capacity by 150 percent. He also performed a groundbreaking ceremony for a new 120MVA transmission substation in Mashi, which will provide an additional 120MVA upon completion.
Tegbe acknowledged the World Bank for funding and emphasized that these projects are part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at revitalizing the power sector. Engr. Sule Abdulaziz, MDCEO of TCN, noted that the new projects address capacity limitations and modernize the control room and infrastructure.
