FCT Minister Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Strengthens Nursing Commitment

On Tuesday, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reaffirmed the commitment of the FCT administration to strengthen nursing and midwifery practices.

Speaking at the biennial conference of the Commonwealth Nursing and Midwifery Federation held at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, she described nursing and midwifery as the backbone of the healthcare system. Dr.

Mahmoud highlighted the indispensable role these professionals play in providing frontline services that improve health outcomes. She noted that the conference is timely, given the evolving challenges faced by health systems worldwide, including emerging disease patterns and workforce shortages.

Dr. Mahmoud emphasized the need for sustained investment to build capacity, improve working conditions, and strengthen institutional support.

She reiterated the FCT administration's commitment to implementing policies and programs that promote workforce development and provide access to modern healthcare infrastructure, essential for achieving universal health coverage and sustainable development goals.
