Nigerian Education Minister Calls for Diaspora Support

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, urged for stronger partnerships between Nigeria and its diaspora to enhance education reform, research, innovation, and human capital development. This call was made during an event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he was honored by the African Cultural Festival and presented with the Key to the City.

Alausa dedicated the award to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and stakeholders in the education sector, recognizing the collective efforts to transform Nigeria’s education system. He outlined key initiatives such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, technical and vocational training expansion, and curriculum modernization.

Alausa emphasized the need for diaspora professionals to engage in the BRIDGE program, which facilitates mentoring, research contributions, and technology transfer to Nigeria. He noted that meaningful contributions from the diaspora do not necessitate permanent relocation, highlighting the festival's theme of reconnecting Africa with its global community through education and collaboration.
