Lagos State Launches Ikosi Market Anaerobic Digester

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment officially launched the Ikosi Market Anaerobic Digester, a project designed to convert organic waste into biogas and bio-fertilizer. This initiative is part of the C40 Cities Urban Climate Action Program, which is financed by the UK government's Foreign Commonwealth Development Office.

Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, described the launch as a significant milestone in addressing waste management issues in the state.

The project aims to transform waste into valuable resources, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable city. Dr.

Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Agency, emphasized the importance of this project in tackling environmental challenges and promoting circular economy practices. The anaerobic digester will not only produce clean cooking gas and electricity but also nutrient-rich organic fertilizer for farms, thereby improving livelihoods and reducing emissions.

The launch reflects Lagos State's commitment to innovative solutions in waste management.
