Coalition Defends AIG Jimoh in Mohbad Investigation Claims

A coalition of rights activists has come to the defense of Olohundare Jimoh, the current Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), regarding allegations that he was involved in the investigation of the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad. The coalition, represented by Comrade Declan Ihekaire, stated that these allegations are part of a blackmail campaign by individuals facing criminal prosecution.

They clarified that Jimoh was not the Commissioner of Police when Mohbad died on September 12, 2023; that role was held by CP Idowu Owohunwa, who led the initial investigation before CP Adegoke Fayoade took over in December 2023. Jimoh only became the Lagos Commissioner of Police on February 18, 2025, and served until March 2026.

Ihekaire emphasized that the timeline is clear and verifiable, asserting that it is misleading to suggest Jimoh's involvement in the case. The coalition also defended the Nigeria Police Force's adherence to established procedures in criminal investigations.
