Court to Decide on Mohbad Investigation Suit by 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Jame Omotosho, has scheduled a ruling for September 29, 2026, on a suit aimed at compelling the Inspector General of Police to reopen the investigation into the death of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The suit was filed by the Break Silence Foundation, which expressed dissatisfaction with the previous police investigation.

During the proceedings, counsel Tund Falola represented the foundation and urged the court to grant the relief sought. An application by Samson Obaboy to join the suit was dismissed by the court for failing to establish sufficient legal interest.

The foundation argues that critical aspects of the investigation were inadequately explored, particularly concerning individuals reportedly among the last seen with Mohbad. The singer passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sparking nationwide outrage and scrutiny surrounding the circumstances of his death.
