Benue Monarch Appeals for Federal Aid After Flood Damage

Following a heavy rainstorm, the community of Otukpo in Benue State has experienced severe damage to homes and businesses, leading to displacement and disruption of livelihoods. The traditional ruler, Agabaidu Elaigwu Odogbo, representing the Idoma area, has issued a statement appealing for immediate assistance from the federal government and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

He has requested emergency relief supplies, including food items, blankets, and temporary shelter materials for displaced families. The royal father emphasized the need for rehabilitation of the drainage system to prevent future flooding and called for the establishment of a special intervention fund to aid affected traders and homeowners in rebuilding their lives.

Local leaders, including Mayor Ignatius Ogbogo, have also urged residents to clear drainage channels to facilitate water flow and avoid taking shelter under weak structures during storms. The community is determined to support each other in recovery efforts and rebuild stronger.
