Monimichelle CEO Urges Focus on Stadium Turf Quality

Ebi Egb, the CEO of Monimichelle, has called on Nigerian sports administrators and government officials to shift their focus from the visual appeal of stadium turfs to their functional quality. He highlighted that many Nigerian stadiums, such as Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, and Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, may look visually appealing but fail to meet the standards set by CAF and FIFA.

Egb pointed out that the emphasis on maintaining a lush green appearance often overshadows the need for pitches that can withstand the pressures of modern football. He warned that until sports administrators prioritize the performance and durability of the pitches, the quality will continue to decline.

Egb noted that many facilities struggle with poor drainage, inconsistent grass coverage, and rapid wear, making them unreliable for hosting top-level competitions. He stressed that the judgment of pitch quality should come from players and match officials rather than administrators focused solely on aesthetics.
