Khadija Diab Returns to Morocco Amid Marital Dispute

Khadija Diab, a Moroccan national, returned to Morocco in April 2026 after a marital dispute with her Nigerian husband, Nasiru Idris Musa. Her lawyer, Bilkisu Abdulrasheed Chedi, Executive Director of Women Aware of Rights Initiative, stated that Diab left Nigeria following an emergency travel document issuance.

Musa had claimed that Sheikh Ahmad Gumi kept Diab away from him for 11 months, which Gumi denied, asserting that Diab had returned to her family in Morocco. Chedi confirmed that Diab's family and Moroccan authorities verified her safe arrival in Morocco.

Diab sought assistance from Chedi's organization in October 2025, alleging domestic abuse and inadequate living conditions. Legal proceedings were initiated at the Area Sharia Court in Kaduna, with the first hearing on October 3, 2025.

The case faced delays due to changes in legal representation and a judicial workers' strike. Chedi reported that Diab experienced emotional distress during the proceedings.
