Khadija's Lawyer Confirms She Is Safe in Morocco

Khadija, a Moroccan woman, has been in Morocco since April 2026, as confirmed by her lawyer, Chedi, the Executive Director of Women Aware of Rights Initiative. Chedi stated that Khadija returned after the organization facilitated an emergency travel document due to her husband allegedly seizing her international passport.

Khadija approached the organization in October 2025, alleging severe domestic abuse and inadequate living conditions. Medical tests indicated she had contracted sexually transmitted diseases.

She expressed a desire to leave the marriage, leading to a case filed at the Area Sharia Court, Daura Road, Kaduna, with the first mention on October 3, 2025. The case faced delays due to changes in legal representation and a judicial strike.

Khadija was emotionally distressed and sought to return home. The organization confirmed her safe arrival in Morocco, and the case at the Sharia Court was discontinued on June 10, 2026, with a new case filed in July for marriage dissolution under Sharia law.

Chedi urged the public to disregard false claims about Khadija being with Sheikh Gumi.
