Tinubu Urges NANS to Shift to Constructive Engagement

During the inauguration of the 2026 Nigerian Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) executive council in Abuja on Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu called for a transition from confrontation to constructive engagement among student leaders. He emphasized that without support, the development of the education sector would be hindered, necessitating collaboration to promote growth.

Tinubu praised the peaceful transition of leadership within NANS and reiterated the government's commitment to educational reforms aimed at addressing challenges faced by school children. He acknowledged the outgoing NANS president's efforts and condemned the alleged diversion of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) meant for students.

Dr. Olatunji Alausa, representing the Federal Ministry of Education, urged continued unity among students and highlighted the government's focus on skill acquisition and entrepreneurship.

Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, Vice Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University, called for partnerships to tackle emerging challenges in the education sector.

Newly inaugurated NANS president Babatund Akintey pledged to prioritize student welfare and advocate for their rights.
