Mutfwang Visits Mangu After Community Attack Kills Dozens

Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang toured Bin-mper community following an armed assault that killed between 24-25 residents, pledging security reinforcements.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang travelled to Bin-mper community in Kombum District, Mangu Local Government Area, on Thursday to meet with residents following a violent attack that occurred on the night of Monday, August 18. Multiple media reports indicate the assault resulted in either 24 or 25 deaths, with women and children among the casualties.
The governor's visit was aimed at offering condolences to bereaved families. During his address to the community, Mutfwang used strong language to characterise the attack, calling it barbaric, senseless, and unacceptable.
The governor acknowledged that his administration bears responsibility for protecting the lives and property of all residents. He stated that the incident would not deter government efforts to enhance security across the state and prevent similar attacks in vulnerable areas.
Mutfwang, himself from Mangu, indicated that the attack affected him personally. He assured the community that his government would implement additional protective strategies and reinforce existing security measures.
The governor also emphasised the need for collective action to combat ongoing insecurity in the region. Police have made arrests in connection with the attack, according to statements made by the governor during the visit.
The nature of these arrests and the identities of those detained were not detailed in available reports. Beyond pledging stronger security, Mutfwang assured residents of government support and reaffirmed their rights to their ancestral lands.
