Abuja Cooking Gas Prices Surge to N1,650/kg

Cooking gas prices in Abuja have reached as high as N1,650 per kilogram, with current prices ranging from N1,250 to N1,650 depending on location and retailer. Filling a 5kg cylinder now costs between N6,250 and N8,250, while a 12.5kg cylinder costs between N15,625 and N20,625.

Although these prices are an improvement from nearly N2,000 per kilogram earlier in the year, many low- and middle-income families still struggle with affordability. In June, LPG prices in Abuja were between N1,498 and N1,650, with some roadside vendors charging up to N1,850.

Residents have expressed that while the recent price moderation offers some relief, there is concern that rising wholesale and depot prices could negate these gains. Consumers are urging the government and industry operators to focus on not only reducing prices but also ensuring their stability, especially as households face rising costs in food, transportation, and other living expenses.
