Federal Workers Demand N300,000 Minimum Wage Increase

The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has formally requested President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to review the salaries of federal civil servants, arguing that the current minimum wage of N70,000 is insufficient due to the escalating cost of living in Nigeria. In a letter dated September 2, 2026, signed by National Coordinator Andrew Emelieze and General Secretary Ogundele Ayodele, the FWF demands an increase in the minimum wage to N300,000 and a maximum salary of N1.5 million for Level 17 officers.

The forum claims that the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage, approved in 2024, has not been fully realized, with many federal employees receiving only a flat N40,000 increase. They argue that the three-year review provision for wage adjustments should not hinder timely interventions in response to economic conditions.

The FWF emphasizes the urgent need for wage adjustments to alleviate the financial strain on workers, exacerbated by rising prices of essential goods and services.
