NAC Approves Framework for Nigeria's Modern Addressing System

The National Addressing Council (NAC) has ratified a preliminary framework aimed at establishing a digitized and modern addressing system in Nigeria. This decision was made during a meeting at the State House in Abuja, chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shetima.

The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will act as the secretariat to enhance efficiency and coordination among various agencies involved. Shetima articulated the need for a system that can accurately locate every community and support enterprises while maintaining privacy.

He stressed that an effective addressing system is crucial for planning, commerce, security, and social protection. The vice-president highlighted the necessity for the addressing framework to integrate with other public systems, linking verified identities to addresses to improve financial inclusion and emergency response.

He appointed the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to oversee technical implementation and standards, emphasizing the ambition for institutional discipline within the council.
