Zulum stated that the market had been closed for five years due to its notoriety as a hub for alleged insurgent logistics.

The airstrike, part of a coordinated operation by the Nigerian Army, targeted terrorist positions near the border of Borno and Yobe states. The incident, which occurred on April 11, 2026, has left traders and residents in panic.

Governor Zulum reiterated the state's commitment to maintaining close coordination with military security agencies to ensure the safety of citizens and facilitate the reopening of markets in affected areas.
