NAFDAC Shuts Shops Over Unregistered Cosmetics in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) conducted an enforcement operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Complex on August 26 and 27, 2026, resulting in the closure of several shops suspected of dealing in unregistered cosmetic products. The affected premises were locked and marked with NAFDAC HOLD labels pending further regulatory action.

Samples of the suspected unregistered cosmetics were collected for investigation, and invitation letters were issued to the business owners for interrogation. This operation is part of NAFDAC's ongoing efforts to eliminate unregistered cosmetic products from circulation, reflecting increased regulatory enforcement against businesses that do not comply with Nigeria's safety and consumer protection standards.

The Trade Fair Complex, located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Ojo, is a significant commercial hub in Lagos State. NAFDAC's previous actions at this location included the seizure of counterfeit alcoholic products valued at approximately N350 million.
