NANS Appeals for Recall of Suspended Kogi University Students

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to the management of Confluence University of Science and Technology in Osara, Kogi State, to review the one-year suspension imposed on four students due to their involvement in a campus fight. NANS did not address the expulsion of two other students for alleged gay practice.

In a statement signed by National Treasurer Asmawu Idris, NANS condemned violence and misconduct but emphasized that disciplinary actions should be lawful, proportionate, and mindful of the long-term effects on students' futures. The association expressed particular concern for the female students among those suspended, noting they are reportedly first-time offenders.

NANS urged the university to consider alternative disciplinary measures that would not unduly disrupt the students' academic pursuits. The association is willing to engage with the university management to advocate for a fair and compassionate resolution, reinforcing its commitment to the welfare of Nigerian students.
