NUJ Elects Juliana Ofoku as New Chairman in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held elections where Mr. Juliana Ofoku emerged as the new chairman, securing 96 votes, defeating Mr.

Samson Johanna from the Nasarawa State Broadcasting Service, who received 61 votes. The election was overseen by Dr.

Kalu Idika, the chairman of the electoral committee. Allegations of intimidation were reported, particularly from members of the state Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism, with Dr.

Ibrahim Tanko being mentioned. Some members expressed concerns about being pressured to vote for specific candidates.

Despite these allegations, Mr. Ofoku, who was already a member of the state information chapel, promised to lead the NUJ with fairness and transparency.

The election also filled other positions, with Regina David becoming the assistant secretary and several other positions filled unopposed. The new leadership aims to enhance the union's standing in the state.
