NNS BEECROFT Intercepts 518 Bags of Smuggled Rice

On July 31, 2026, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, in a joint operation with the Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), intercepted four boats transporting 518 bags of suspected smuggled parboiled rice along the Badagry waterways. The operation was executed by the NNS BEECROFT patrol team, supported by the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service (NNSBS), which was deployed via helicopter to assist Customs personnel at a checkpoint.

Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, Commander of NNS BEECROFT, stated that the interception followed intelligence from the Headquarters, Western Naval Command.

He emphasized the Navy's commitment to dismantling smuggling networks through inter-agency collaboration and advanced surveillance capabilities. This operation aligns with the directives of Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, to enhance maritime security and combat smuggling and other maritime crimes.
