NBA Slams Okpebholo Over Attempt To Ban Peter Obi, ADC Warns Against Political Intimidation

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has criticized Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for attempting to ban former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi from entering the state, calling it a violation of constitutional rights. The NBA emphasized that the governor does not have the legal authority to restrict the movement of any Nigerian citizen within the federation.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) also warned against political intimidation, stating that such actions threaten democratic engagement and free participation. Governor Okpebholo defended his position, citing security concerns, but denied issuing a threat to Peter Obi.

The controversy has sparked a debate on the abuse of power and the shrinking space for political opposition in Nigeria's evolving democracy. The ADC vowed to resist any attempts to intimidate opposition figures.
