NCAA Fines RwandAir ₦15m Over Baggage Complaint

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) imposed a fine of ₦15 million on RwandAir for failing to address a passenger's baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe set by aviation regulations. Michael Achimugu, the NCAA Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, announced the sanction on September 11.

The fine was issued due to a violation of consumer protection regulations concerning the handling of the baggage complaint. In addition to the fine, RwandAir is required to replace the passenger's damaged bag and pay $170 in first-need compensation as mandated under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.

This action is part of the NCAA's ongoing efforts to enforce passenger protection regulations against airlines operating in Nigeria. The NCAA has previously sanctioned other airlines, including Air Peace, Ethiopian Airlines, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, and Royal Air Maroc, for various passenger-related violations.

Furthermore, a ₦6 million penalty was imposed on Saudi Airlines for similar consumer protection issues.
