NDC Candidate Rejects Enugu North By-Election Results

Bishop Oscar Ossai, the candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election held on June 20, has rejected the election results, claiming they were marred by widespread irregularities and a lack of credibility and transparency. In a statement issued on Monday, Ossai asserted that the electoral process failed to reflect the genuine choice of voters in the district.

He alleged several infractions, including the non-deployment of the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System at polling units, failure to electronically transmit results, and discrepancies between announced results and figures collated at higher levels. Ossai stated that the NDC does not recognize the results declared by the electoral authorities, which he believes fell short of expected standards for credible and fair elections.

He disclosed that the party is compiling evidence, including witness testimonies and video footage, to pursue legal redress. Ossai also expressed concern over reports of harassment and intimidation experienced by voters and party agents during the election and urged security agencies to investigate these incidents.
