NDDC Moot Court Competition Engages 16 Law Faculties

Sixteen law faculties from universities across the Niger Delta are participating in the 2026 Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Annual Moot Court and Mock Trial Competition. The competition was declared open in Port Harcourt by Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the NDDC 7th Governing Board, who emphasized its role in enhancing the confidence and advocacy skills of young legal minds.

Ebie stated that moot court competitions allow law students to develop essential courtroom presentation skills and gain practical experience. Samuel Ogbuku, NDDC Managing Director, noted that this is the third consecutive year the competition has been held under his leadership, highlighting its significance in educational and human-capacity development.

Ogbuku urged stakeholders to adapt legal education curricula to address emerging global issues, including energy transition and artificial intelligence. Olumide Akpata, President of the Nigerian Bar Association, praised the NDDC's commitment to investing in young legal professionals and called for a revival of the Memorandum of Understanding between the NDDC and the NBA.
