NDLEA Warns Parents of Drug-Infused Cookies and Gummies

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a warning to parents regarding the potential dangers of cookies and gummies that may contain illicit substances. Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, stated that recent seizures by the agency revealed attempts by criminals to smuggle prohibited substances disguised as everyday snacks.

Parents are advised to be vigilant if their children frequently crave these products. The warning follows a significant interception by the Nigeria Customs Service at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, where two 40-foot containers were seized, containing large quantities of cannabis-infused products hidden among legitimate imports.

The consignment included thousands of Delta-8 cannabis pre-roll cookies and packs of cannabis-infused gummies, with an estimated street value of ₦373.8 million. These products, originating from the United States, were packaged to resemble ordinary vegan snacks, raising concerns about their appeal to children and the risk of accidental consumption of concentrated cannabis.
