The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Ivorian national Gohouri Michael, 41, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport during an outward clearance for an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Milan, Italy, on April 7, 2026. Gohouri was found to have ingested 82 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.49 kg, which he had smuggled from Milan to Nigeria on January 17, 2026. He was expected to receive €5,000 for delivering the drugs in Milan. Further investigations led to the arrest of Dr. Chudi Ofomata, a 69-year-old medical doctor from Ogun State, on March 27, 2026, as he was identified as a key figure behind the trafficking operation. The NDLEA's efforts also resulted in the seizure of various drugs, including 15 kg of cannabis and 26,800 bottles of codeine syrup, across multiple states, highlighting ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in Nigeria.
