NDYC Calls for Review of Sheriff’s Campaign Appointment

The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to review the appointment of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the North-East Zonal Campaign Coordinator for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election. The NDYC expressed concerns regarding the reputational and strategic implications of placing Sheriff in such a prominent role, particularly in the context of the North-East's ongoing issues with insecurity and displacement.

In a statement signed by National Coordinator Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, the group emphasized that while Sheriff has not been convicted of any crime, his historical controversies could detract from the campaign's message and create political liabilities. The NDYC argued that the campaign should focus on security, reconstruction, and public confidence rather than controversies surrounding its leadership.

They acknowledged Tinubu's right to appoint individuals but stressed the importance of strategic suitability in campaign appointments.
