NECA Urges Action on Lagos Factory Closures Amid Dispute

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) has voiced significant concern regarding the ongoing closure of manufacturing and commercial facilities in the Dopemu industrial corridor of Lagos State, following a warrant of possession enforced by the Lagos State High Court Sheriff’s Department on July 30, 2026. NECA, in a statement released on Thursday, called for the Federal Government, through the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission and the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, along with the Lagos State Government, to urgently convene relevant parties to seek an interim solution that protects jobs and investments.

NECA's Director-General, Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, emphasized the economic implications of the closures, which affect a corridor responsible for over 50% of Nigeria’s industrial output. He warned that prolonged shutdowns could harm Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness and economic recovery, especially amid existing challenges like high energy costs and foreign exchange volatility.

Oyerinde reiterated that the situation threatens the Federal Government’s industrialization agenda and the preservation of Nigeria’s productive capacity.
