NERC Trains Journalists on Electricity Sector Reforms

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) held a three-day capacity-building workshop for journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from July 15 to 17, 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance journalists' understanding of regulatory activities within Nigeria's electricity sector, particularly in light of significant reforms following the enactment of the Electricity Act 2023.

The sessions focused on topics such as electricity market reform, consumer protection, and stakeholder engagement. Dr.

Fouad Animashaun, who is in charge of the commission's research and data analytics division, emphasized the importance of media support in the ongoing transformation of the electricity sector. Participants received technical training from NERC's research data analytics team, which included interpreting industry data and statutory reports.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening media engagement and promoting informed reporting in the electricity sector.
