Benue Governor Applauds New Army Division in Makurdi

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 5 Division Headquarters in Makurdi, the state capital. In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Alia described this move as a significant enhancement to Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly in addressing insecurity in the North-Central region.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, indicated that this decision is part of the military's expansion of its command structure. Alia stated that the new division, which will cover Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi states, is a timely intervention that will improve military operations through better command and control, quicker responses to security threats, and enhanced protection of lives and property.

He expressed hope that this formation would aid his administration's efforts to combat criminality and restore peace. Additionally, Alia praised Tinubu for approving the recruitment of 28,000 new personnel into the Nigerian Army and for ongoing investments in military readiness.
