Fresh Applicants Challenge EFCC's Interim Forfeiture of Ex-AGF Malami's Assets in Legal Battle

Fresh applicants have approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) interim forfeiture of properties linked to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami. The applicants seek to set aside the interim forfeiture order placed on properties allegedly connected to Malami, arguing that the EFCC failed to establish a nexus between the properties and unlawful activities.

The properties in question include a luxury duplex in Maitama, Abuja, a factory complex in Kebbi, and an energy tanker garage in Birnin Kebbi. Justice Emeka Nwite had ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities linked to Malami.

The court has invited interested parties to show cause within 14 days why a final forfeiture order should not be made. The legal battle involves arguments about the legitimacy of the properties' acquisition and the alleged lack of evidence linking them to criminal activities.
