New Twist over River Park Estate Ownership after IGP Monitoring Unit’s Intervention

The ownership dispute over Abuja's River Park Estate has taken a new turn after the intervention of the IGP Monitoring Unit. A letter from Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede directed key FCT agencies to exclusively deal with Paulo Homes Nigeria Limited regarding the estate.

This move has drawn criticism, especially as it seems to contradict the directive of the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for a fresh probe into the matter. The letter has been seen as an attempt to undermine the ministerial committee set up by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to resolve the dispute.

The IGP has emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force lacks legal authority to determine land ownership disputes, highlighting the need for transparency in resolving the complicated issue. Critics warn of possible tampering with official records and urge the committee to work independently to ensure a fair resolution.
