NHRC Demands Arrest of Senator Fadahunsi Over Violent Remarks

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called for the immediate suspension and arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, due to alleged inflammatory remarks made in a viral video related to the upcoming Osun governorship election on August 15, 2026. The NHRC, led by Executive Secretary Chief Tony Ojukwu, stated that Fadahunsi's comments amounted to incitement to murder, electoral violence, and voter intimidation.

Allegedly, Fadahunsi instructed his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party and prohibited them from voting, even if they had voter cards. Ojukwu condemned these statements as a "licence to kill" and urged immediate action from authorities to prevent potential violence.

The NHRC has requested the Senate leadership to suspend Fadahunsi pending an investigation and has called on law enforcement to arrest and prosecute him. Additionally, the NHRC has established a situation room to monitor human rights and electoral incidents during the election period.
