Nigeria and Canada Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Nigeria and Canada have reaffirmed their long-standing cordial relationship during a meeting in Abuja between Randeep Sarai, Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. The discussions aimed to explore avenues for expanding cooperation in critical sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure, mining, renewable energy, peace and security, technology, and education.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the visit as timely, especially as Nigeria continues to implement economic reforms to create an attractive environment for foreign investment and sustain economic growth. The meeting also addressed the need for deeper collaboration in intelligence sharing and counter-terrorism efforts, acknowledging the significant threat posed by insecurity and violent extremism to economic stability in the region.

Sarai praised the growing strength of Nigeria-Canada relations, particularly through the Nigerian diaspora in Canada, and reiterated Canada’s commitment to supporting development initiatives in Nigeria.
